| Hi-Tech Metro to Transform Dubai City-Living |
| The Dubai Metro is all set to transform the transportation scenario in the city when the high-tech trains commence their runs in 2010 from the Rashidiya and Jebel Ali Free Zone depots.
An Automatic Train Control system will activate the trains before sunrise at 4.45am. Each train will then do a complete test on itself including testing doors, brakes, motors, AC and all other sophisticated intelligent subsystems.
By 5.00 am the trains will be ready to roll out and the daily service will start, Engineer Ramadan Abdulla, Director of Operations, Dubai Metro, informed through a Press release.
“The frequency of metro service at each station will be every three minutes and 45 seconds during peaks, while during off peak time it will be seven minutes. Each train has a capacity of 658 passengers. During peak hours, 38 trains will be in service on both directions of the red line. The total travel time from end to end will be 71 minutes and the line capacity will be 11,000 passengers per direction per hour (ppdph) in 2010 with 19 trains in service per direction. The ultimate capacity of the Red Line is 23,200 ppdph with 44 trains in operations per direction,” Engineer Abdulla said.
On the fast pace of the service, he said, the journey from the Airport to Union Square will take eight minutes, from Port Saeed to Union Square three minutes 45 seconds, from Union Square to BurJuman two minutes, from BurJuman to Trade Centre five minutes 40 seconds, from Trade Centre to Al Barshaa 19 minutes and from Al Barshaa to the Tecom five minutes.
In Dubai there will be three peak hours similar to roads for the train service to handle. The peak hours include 6.30am to 8.30am, 12.30pm to 14.00pm and the 17.30pm to 21.00pm, he revealed.
By the end of the day at 1.00am, all trains will stop servicing the public and move back to the two depots at both ends of the red line.
